Simply Christene

Local plus size designers is just one of the many reasons A Plus Market is a fabulous fashion destination!

And for our Ballarat date we have the localist of locals, Simply Christene!
Simply Christene A Plus Market 1Simply Christene lives, designs and makes just outside of Ballarat.

The gorgeous handcrafted clothing is individual, quirky,  sometimes nostalgic always tailored to flatter and fit curves.  Each piece is distinctive,  a one off or one of no more than four.  Fabrics are hand picked for particular elements of quality, design, colour and fall.  Choice of fabrics are by preference natural fibres, cotton, linens, wools and a variety of blends.

Everything about Simply Christene is hands on.

Designs are hand drawn as are the patterns the next part of this exacting process.  Each garment is singularly hand cut from the carefully selected fabric before each piece is fitted and sewn, elements such as buttons, flowers and piping are sewn by hand with a fine attention to detail.

We are always pleased to having such a fine artisan attend A Plus Market. This time around we are more than pleased to be heading into Simply Christene’s home turf.

Join us SATURDAY 29th August in BALLARAT and show some love and support for your local makers.

My Ballarat Haul

Before I get too excited about the next A Plus Market (which is in Preston, only a few weeks away and I am already really really excited about) I thought I better share my Ballarat haul with you all.

This is only a small selection of what I picked up.

The bunting dress rom City Chic is brand new with tags and one I was coveting when it came out. So I am pretty chuffed to have picked it up at a fraction of the retail cost.
The floral dress (another City Chic), I absolutely love. It’s bright, will do well for winter with tights and a cardi and has really cute pockets – winning!

Finally, the green and black dress is something I wouldn’t normally try out, but in an effort to get me out of a bit of a fashion rut, I’m embracing it. I think it will end up being my go to smart casual option.

Excuse the hanger pics, I’ll endeavour to do some outfit shots as I wear them.

And I picked up some very cute little earrings from Bok Bok B’gerk, how could I resist? I think I’ll share these around a bit…..

Bok Bok B’gerk

Another Ballarat local that will be showcased at A Plus Market this Saturday, Bok Bok B’gerk creates a range of wooden laser cut jewellery, made with the eco-friendly wood of the Alderwood Tree.

If you like your jewellery bright, fun with a bucket load of charm, then Bok Bok B’gerk is for you.

Necklaces, brooches and earrings form the core range, though there are some cute little girl hair clips, that are so adorable that they could add a fun accent for a more playful hairdo.

The colourful pieces are painted by hand. I really like these pieces and find the asymmetrical earrings particularly charming.

You definitely don’t want to miss the Ballarat A Plus Market as in addition to this great local handmade jewellery there is a fabulous range of plus size clothing on offer.

Though, if you really can’t make it to the market this weekend, Bok Bok B’gerk is available online and offers a really fun subscription service – Earring of the month club, You can get a 3, 6 or 12 month subscription and receive a pair of wooden laser cut earrings each month for the duration of your subscription.

Some months the earrings will be of the hand painted/resin variety, other months they will be plain alder wood.  One thing is for sure though, you’ll never receive the same pair of earrings twice no matter how long you subscribe for.
What a great gift, awesome and FUN!

So see you on Saturday?

Jewellery by Lisa Kennedy

A Plus Market isn’t all about bargains, there is also always a selection of extra special pieces
that are perfect for spoiling yourself with.
The upcoming Ballarat A Plus Market on Saturday May 3rd will be home for a day to local jeweller Lisa Kennedy.

Jewellery by Lisa Kennedy is a collection of high quality, handmade jewellery pieces. Lisa designs and hand makes all the pieces in her Maldon studio.

+Market mix
Lisa’s resume is impressive having worked as a trade jeweller in London, specialised in pearls in Darwin and precious metals in Canterbury. Now based in Maldon, Lisa has total creative freedom,
using it to create unique and elegant jewellery pieces.

Jewellery by Lisa Kennedy is all hand made therefore rings can be any size.
Any ring that is in stock can be resized or remade if required free of charge.
This is fantastic news for ladies like me who have if you are larger than average (and also for those with or smaller), there’s no paying extra for that perfect fit.

The Jewellery by Lisa Kennedy stall at A Plus Market will be stocked with a range of larger rings and neck pieces, so there even more chance that the piece you fall in love with is going to fit straight away.

I have a real soft spot, some may even say addiction, to jewellery so I am looking forward to having a very up close and personal check out of this divine range.

Come along on Saturday May 3 and splurge on a gorgeous one off piece, made by a very talented local artist. Also don’t forget that Mother’s Day is just around the corner.

Hope & Harvest

Now those who have been following A Plus Market, have probably figured out that I can get pretty excited about the stallholders we showcase. Now, this market around there are no exceptions and if truth be told my excitement levels have been turned up a notch.

The upcoming A Plus Market is not only in an extra beautiful building but there will also be some extra awesome stallholders too.

So without anymore adieu I’d like to announce that the wonderful and fabulous
Hope & Harvest
will be joining us at A Plus Market Ballarat, Saturday May 3.

WOOOP! and even better news is that they aren’t just joining us they will be totally bringing IT
Go A Plus Market Prices!

For those in the know – you’re probably now as excited as me and those who haven’t heard about Hope & Harvest yet, here’s a little education.

Hope & Harvest are local designers based out of Melbourne/Ballarat who have been named by Madison Plus N.Y.C & Essence Magazine as one of the top plus size labels in the world. How amazing is that!

Just as exciting, Hope and Harvest have just been featured in Volup2 magazine, you can see it HERE, Pages 53 to 73.

I really like lots of Hope & Harvest’s designs as many have that cool BOHO feel while others have that little bit of allure (and some  a lot) and all are available in sizes 14 to 26.

Harvest, one half of Hope & Harvest’s design team says,

“We get our ideas by thinking about what we want to wear. By looking at fashion that inspires us and using our experience to find a way to create pieces that really work for us”

I guess that’s also why the designs work for so many of us.

So now back to what’s happening at A Plus Market on Saturday May 3.

Hope & Harvest will be showcasing both new season and SALE stock with as I said before

But wait there’s more.
Become a Hope & Harvest VIP and get 20% off everything, this is in addition to the already reduced stuff. You’ll need to sign up before the market and take your VIP number along with you on market day.
